We Step.
Step Afrika celebrates stepping, an art form born at African American fraternities and based in African traditions. As the first professional company dedicated to stepping, Step Afrika’s intricate kicks, stomps and rhythms mixed with spoken word pound the floor and fill the air. Whether you are a college student, a dance lover, a family of four, or a world culture enthusiast, find out more about Step Afrika!

We Teach.
Step Afrika steps out—across the country and around the world. From the school auditorium to the college campus to the major theater, our annual tour of over 150 events travels to 50 cities and foreign countries, reaching over 50,000. Presenters and student activities boards, find out how to bring Step Afrika to your community.

We Teach.
From one-time demonstrations to curriculum-based residencies, Step Afrika! mixes the power of stepping with universal lessons in teamwork, discipline, and commitment. Our full range of arts-in-education activities, conducted by artists with over a decade of experience and training, speaks to the first grader or the college senior. Teachers, principals, and college programmers, find out how to get your students stepping and learning!

We're Ambassadors.
Step Afrika! is Washington, DC’s official Cultural Ambassador representing the city at events all around the world. Through invitations from US embassies and international festivals, we step to entertain but also to raise awareness for the culture that created stepping. From Montreal to Madagascar, Alaska to Alabama, we seek to build connections between people and to highlight the similarities in our dance forms, our lives and our communities. Our motto is “if we can dance together, then we can work together.” We found this to be true as we’ve traveled the globe. The Step Afrika! International Cultural Festival brings people like you to Johannesburg, South Africa, to build friendships that can last a lifetime. And stepping is just one way of starting the conversation.
